Federal Government Industrial Trust Fund (ITF) Model Skills Training Centre Applicaton For Admission 2013/2014


Industrial Training Fund (ITF) was established in 1971, the Industrial Training Fund has operated consistently and painstakingly within the context of its enabling laws Decree 47 of 1971as Amended in the 2011 ITF ACT. The objective for which the Fund was established has been pursued vigorously and efficaciously. In the four decades of its existence, the ITF has not only raised training consciousness in the economy, but has also helped in generating a corps of skilled indigenous manpower which has been manning and managing various sectors of the national economy. 


Over the years, pursuant to its statutory responsibility, the ITF has expanded its structures, developed training programmes, reviewed its strategies, operations and services in order to meet the expanding, and changing demands for skilled manpower in the economy. Beginning as a Parastatal “B” in 1971, headed by a Director, the ITF became a Parastatal “A” in 1981, with a Director-General as the Chief Executive under the aegis of the Ministry of Industry. The Fund has a 13 member Governing Council and operates with 6 Departments and 3 Units at the Headquarters, 32 Area Offices, 3 Skills Training Centres, and a Centre for Industrial Training Excellence.

The Federal Government of Nigeria invites Applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Fund's Model Skills Training Centre (MSTC), Abuja for a two-year Vocational Skills Training in selected Trade Areas for the 2013/2014 training year. The programme leads to the award of National Institute of Technical Education Certificate (NITEC), International of ITE Singapore (OND Equivalent) and ITF Competency Certificate (COC).

The aim of the programme is to train and equip youths with advanced employable skills in the following occupational areas:
  1. Facility Maintenance Technology (FCT) (Mechanical & Electrical Services)
  2. Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
  3. Culinary Skills Western & African Dishes (CS)
  4. Mechatronics (Automation and Autotronics) (ME)
  5. Electronics (Computer & Networking) (ECN)

NOTE: Training on the above listed programmes will not only equip trainees for a successful and rewarding career but also pave the way to long life education and training. 
Description of Occupational Areas

1.) Facility Maintenance Technology (FCT) (Mechanical & Electrical Services)
On completion of this programme, trainees will be able to plan, install and maintain mechanical & Electrical Facilities in an establishment.

Job Opportunities
  • Graduates on this programme are employed by companies providing building management and maintenance services. Some of the job titles held by graduates include Building Maintenance Technician, Building Services Technician and Air-Conditioning Engineering Technician.
  • There are also excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond.
  • The challenge is for trainees to prepare themselves by upgrading their technical skills and knowledge by taking up higher-level courses.
  • Graduates of this skills area can also establish their own outfits.

2.) Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
On completion of this programme, trainees will be able to:
Plan, install and carry-out maintenance work on Data Communication Systems, Soft ware Applications and Manage Data Centre Services.

Job Opportunities
  • Graduates are employed by a wide range of private and public organizations in all industries ranging from telecommunications, manufacturing, retail, government, education,, healthcare, and insurance. Some of the job titles held are: Information and Communication Technician and Computer Technician.
  • There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory position and beyond. The challenge is for trainees to prepare themselves by upgrading their technical skills and knowledge by taking up higher-level courses.

3.) Culinary Skills Western & African Dishes (CS)
On completion of this programme, trainees would be able to operate a standard kitchen and produce Western and African dishes to acceptable International standards.

Job Opportunities
  • Graduates of Culinary Skills are employed by establishments in restaurants, food and beverage outlets in hotels. Some of the job titles held by graduates may include Chef and Assistant Chef.
  • They can also establish their own outfits. 

4.) Mechatronics (Automation and Autotronics) (ME)
On completion of this programme, trainees will be able to plan and carry-out maintenance work on Industrial Digital Machinery and Automotive.

Job Opportunities
  • In this programme, graduates are employed by companies in the high- technology manufacturing and servicing industries. Some of the job titles held by graduates include Automation Technician, Automated Equipment Maintenance Technician and Mechatronics Technician.
  • There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The challenge is for trainees to prepare themselves by upgrading their technical skills and knowledge by taking up higher-level courses. Graduates can also run their own outlets.

5.) Electronics (Computer & Networking) (ECN)
On completion of this programme, trainees will be able to plan, maintain, test and repair digital equipment, micro computer peripherals and set-up and install networking equipment.

Job Opportunities
  • Graduates are employed by organizations and companies that manufacture electronic and computer equipment. Some of the job titles held by graduates include Computer Systems Technician, Electronics Servicing Technician, Electronics Production Technician and Electronics Maintenance Technician.
  • There are excellent opportunities for career advancement to supervisory positions and beyond. The challenge is for trainees to prepare themselves by upgrading their technical skills and knowledge by taking higher-level courses 

Entry Qualifications
Applicants should not be below 18 years of age and must have obtained a minimum of five (5) credits with at least passes in Mathematics, Physics and English Language at SSCE Level.

Entrance Examination
The entrance examination, which will hold on 14th February, 2013, will concentrate on General Paper, Mathematics and English Language.

Selection/Interview
Successful candidates at this Entrance Examination will attend a selection interview on the 15th day of February, 2013, at their Examination Centre.

Fees
A highly subsidized fee of Seventy-five thousand Naira (N 75,000.00) only, per trainee per annum is charged for the programme. Fifty thousand Naira (N 50,000.00) only is charged for hostel accommodation excluding N30,000.00 refundable caution fee.

Return of Completed Forms
Duly completed application forms should be returned through sponsoring organisations/parents/guardians with the following:
  1. Photocopy of the receipt of application fee
  2. Photocopies of Credentials
  3. Two recent passport photographs
  4. Two self addressed stamped envelopes
  5. Medical Certificate of physical fitness from a recognised hospital.
